We will use the information you provide to assess your entitlement to discretionary housing payments and community support grants and to identify any other help you may be entitled to by the council. We will also use it for the recovery of any overpaid benefit and for the detection and prevention of fraud.
As part of this we will share your personal information with other council departments, and other organisations which are listed in our privacy notice. More information on how we handle personal information and your rights under the data protection legislation can be found in our web site http://www.coventry.gov.uk/info/54/benefits/3055/discretionary_housing_payments/1
An automated decision is made to decide if you meet the qualifying criteria. You have the right to ask for the decision to be looked at by a person and explained to you. To do this you can phone 02476833773 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Discretionary Housing Payments (DHPs) exist to help people with certain housing costs. There is no automatic entitlement. There are some circumstances where your application will not be successful. These include, for example:
- where you are not entitled to Housing Benefit;
- where you are able to afford your housing costs yourself; and
- where you are moving into a property that you cannot afford
You will need to provide details of your income and expenses. You will also need to provide up-to-date statements for the last eight weeks for all bank, building society and Post Office accounts for you and any partner.
